Welcome to Shortboxed! So what is Shortboxed, exactly? How does it differ from the millions of other comic-related blogs? Why should you spend your time here?
What does it mean? “Shortboxed” is the verbing, past tense form of the noun short box, a place where one stores comic books. What does it look like? Well, check out the logo!
The premise is simple – if you only had one shortbox, which comic books would you keep in it? We’re here to help you decide which books get “shortboxed.”
Shortboxed was founded by people who have just recently fallen back in love with comics. We collected, read, and loved comics when we were younger, but for some reason we had a falling out with our beloved hobby… school, work, life. When we tried to reunite with our favorite heroes, we discovered a vastly confusing version of the comics we read as children. New heroes. New villains. Complicated story arcs. New teams. New interests. We found ourselves asking the same question:
Where do I start?
How do I catch up with a decade of Wolverine stories? Who are these Guardians of the Galaxy, and why do they have their own movie? There are so many new characters, big comic events and reboots that the characters hardly resemble the heroes that we once knew. Looking through other great comics sites, there was just so much information. Reading Wikipedia proved to be unsatisfying and dry. We just wanted someone to cut to the chase. We wanted to start clean with familiar faces. Beyond going to the local comic shop or piecing together information online – there was no easy way to get this information. We had to fix this.
Shortboxed is for people who are:
- Getting back into comics
- Are new to comics and want to know where to start
- Overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information on other sites
- Looking for non-essay style reviews and recommendations
- Fans of short and sweet content
- Interested in learning more about comic book culture
We want to provide a place where comics and comic culture are easily accessible and approachable for everyone
As we start to grow/get better at this whole thing, you’ll start to see recommendations, comic/TV/movie reviews, videos, convention reviews.
In the meantime, let us know how we’re doing. And again:
